Schoolbook belonging to Clara W. Palmer, North Street, 1845

Clara married Albert Uriah Platts, a Civil War Veteran who fought in many of the major battles of the war. His war history, "The 73 Civil War letters of Albert Uriah Platts" can be purchased from the Society. These letters sat in an attic on North Street for nearly 160 years.

This documents was written by The Reverend Jonathan Maltby in 1844. In 1779 when the British invaded New Haven he was a first year student at Yale. The entire document is transcribed on our on our "Research Documents 2" page. In the document Rev. Maltby corroborates the story of "Dick Negro and the Dick Lot." That story can also be read on our "Research Documents 2" page.

The Civil War Diary of John Henry Palmer

Jan 1 to Dec. 31, 1863. Mr. Palmer lived on North Street in North Branford. Diaries for 1864 and 1865 have also been transcribed.
