The Little White Gas Station

Located behind the Miller Barn on the Reynolds-Beers House property, the Angelo Forte gas station was the first gas station in North Branford . It dates back to the 1920s. This was originally located on the Regional Water Company property on Route 80 near the High School. It is a small, hexagonal shaped building with windows on an angle so that the attendant could look up and down the road for customers while seated inside. The gas station was donated to the Town and Historical Society by the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority. However, initial efforts to save the building were stymied by the lack of funds to address environmental concerns The Town of North Branford (Public Works Department) volunteered to move it by trailer to the Reynolds-Beers property and build a foundation for it. It was moved to its present location behind the Miller Barn in 2007. Many thanks go to Shaun Redman, a local high school student who undertook cleaning, repairing and painting the relocated Gas Station as a project for his Eagle Scout Badge. His help was a major contribution toward getting the building in shape. Also, without the help of the Town of North Branford, the Regional Water Authority and interested townspeople who made donations, this treasure would have been lost. There have been some donations of license plates and old gas station signs that are now decorating the building. More are needed and the Society would really like to find an old gas pump to place outside the building. The Little White Gas Station is open once a month at the same time as the Miller Barn.
